Holamooki (Shawnee): shades of red; warpaint
Holamooki is an ongoing project, started in 2018.
This project’s aims are to generate connection between, and appropriate self-directed representation of, contemporary LGBTQIA2S Natives across Turtle Island. We are farmers and seedkeepers, water protectors, aunties, parents and grandparents; we live in cities and on reservations, we work in government and real estate, we are mixed and multiracial and multicultural - above all, we defy stereotypes. In addition to the human subjects, I have interwoven the homelands, sacred sites and landscapes which hold and shape us as Indigenous people. This body of work is always expanding and I am never done making connections with other queer people across Indian Country. If you’d like to be photographed for this body of work or have other questions or resources to share, please be in touch.
